BRONX BOROUGH PRESIDENT RUBÉN DÍAZ, JR., SENATOR RUBÉN DÍAZ, SR. AND ASSEMBLYMAN MARCOS CRESPO TO HOST BREAKFAST IN HONOR OF BRONX PUERTO RICAN PARADE AND ITS ORGANIZERS
Tomorrow, May 13, 2010, Bronx Borough President Rubén Díaz, Jr., Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz, Sr., and Assemblyman Marcos Crespo will host the Annual Breakfast in honor of the Bronx Puerto Rican Parade and its organizers beginning at 9:00 AM. The breakfast will be held at the Eastwood Manor Restaurant located at 3371 Eastchester Road in the Bronx.
“The Bronx is home to over 300,000 Puerto Ricans, the largest minority group in the borough; New York City is where the largest concentration of Puerto Ricans can be found outside of the island of Puerto Rico. It is important for us to celebrate and support the contributions of so many Puerto Ricans to the wellbeing of this city, state and nation,” stated Senator Diaz. During the Breakfast activity, Senator Díaz will present a proclamation in recognition of the exemplary work performance of the Bronx Parks Commissioner, Honorable Héctor M. Aponte. Also being honored is Eugenio “Flaquitino” Ortiz for his long time perseverance, commitment and contribution to our community.
According to Assemblyman Marcos Crespo, “in its 22nd year, the Bronx Puerto Rican Parade has proven its value and has been the beacon of our culture and heritage in the borough. It is a pleasure for me to support this great organization and to host the breakfast.” Assemblyman Crespo will present a recognition proclamation to Sergeant Major Cristóbal R. Santiago, U.S. Army, for his achievements and hard work over the years.
“The celebration of this year’s Bronx Puerto Rican Parade represents a milestone of our rich diversity and culture in the Bronx and we should be very proud to participate in the Parade and related events,” Senator Díaz explained.
