CLERGY, COMMUNITY LEADERS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS LEAD HAITI EARTHQUAKE RELIEF EFFORT
(Bronx, NY)- The devastating tragedy in Haiti has once again demonstrated the generous spirit and compassion of New Yorkers. The New York State Senate Puerto Rican and Hispanic Caucus, chaired by Senator Ruben Diaz Sr., will be joined by Senate Majority Conference Leader John L. Sampson, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., Assemblyman Marcos Crespo, The New York Hispanic Clergy Organization, and Radio Vision Cristiana to host a radio marathon in support of the Haiti Earthquake relief effort.
The sponsors are calling on all New Yorkers to lend a helping hand during this time of tragedy and suffering for the people of Haiti. They will be accepting monetary contributions, as well as donations of medical supplies, canned goods, and other provisions essential to the recovery effort. The container will be sent to Haiti through the Dominican Republic. It will be sent to "Servicio Social de Iglesias Dominicanas ". The Executive Director is Dr. Mota King who can be reached at (809) 542- 6050.
Senator Ruben Diaz, Sr., stated "I look forward to seeing residents of this great City coming together as one to fill up this container for Haiti. I ask that you bring medical supplies, sheets, towels, canned, and dry goods for our brothers and sisters there." Checks and money orders made to Radio Vision Cristiana - Haiti will also be accepted. The names of the donors will be shared with the listening audience throughout the day and a final tally of the funds collected will be conveyed at 5 PM.
Senate Majority Conference Leader John L. Sampson stated, “I am deeply saddened by the tremendous loss of human life and the thousands who were injured in Haiti. I offer my prayers and condolences to those who lost family and friends, and to the Haitian community in New York. I encourage all New Yorkers to donate whatever time, money, and supplies they can during this difficult time. I applaud Senator Diaz, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., Assemblyman Marcos Crespo, The New York Hispanic Clergy Organization, and Radio Vision Cristiana for their extraordinary humanitarian efforts.”
