DÍaz to Present First Dominican Heritage Resolution

DÍAZ TO PRESENT FIRST DOMINICAN HERITAGE RESOLUTION

IN NEW YORK STATE SENATE

On Tuesday, February 23, 2010, Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz, Chairman of the New York State Puerto Rican and Hispanic Caucus will be presenting on the floor of the New York State Senate, a resolution commemorating Dominican Heritage in New York State.

This will be the first time in the history of New York State Senate that the Dominican community and its residents will be recognized for their growing contribution to the state in politics, education, faith based institutions, culture and economic development.

“The Dominican Community is a vibrant, growing and extremely hard working community; many of the new pastors and churches in our community are Dominican,” stated Senator Díaz.  Copies of the Senate Resolution, which requests that Governor David Paterson proclaim the month of  February as Dominican Heritage Month in New York State will be presented to the Dominican Ambassador to the United States  Hon. Roberto B. Saladin, Ambassador of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations Hon. Federico Alberto Cuello Camilo and New York Consul General Hon. Rafael Evans.

The Bronx Dominican Day Parade Founders, Felipe Febles and Rosa Ayala will also be recognized during the session for their dedication to the community and promulgation of Dominican culture in New York.  “This will be a proud Day for Dominicans in New York State.  The beginning of many recognitions they are due in New York.  I am glad to have sponsored the first Resolution in the New York State Senate,” he concluded.
