Senator Díaz Commends Unifying Actions of Elected Officials
New York State Senator Hiram Monserrate was joined yesterday in Queens by Assemblymen Peter Rivera and José Rivera, in addition to State Senator Rubén Díaz, as he met with the press to discuss his intention to fight any Senate led effort to oust him.
The two assemblymen are representative of a growing number of Latino elected officials concerned about decisions being made impacting Latino representation by individuals motivated by their own personal political agenda. “I am grateful for the actions and words of community leaders Assemblyman Peter Rivera and Assemblyman José Rivera. The efforts against Hiram Monserrate are discriminatory. They are attempting to persecute Senator Monserrate and this should not be allowed,” stated Senator Díaz
“If we allow them to do this to Senator Monserrate, they will do it to any one of us. This is a call to arms to our leadership to come together. We will provide a united front on this crucial issue,” stated Senator Díaz.
