FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz and Luis Sepulveda, Esq. to MTA: Don’t Leave Our Constituents Stranded!
New York State Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz (D-Bronx), Luis Sepulveda, Esq. will join the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization and Bronx bus riders for a demonstration on Friday, June 11, 2010 at 7:30 AM at the Hugh J. Grant Circle in the Bronx to protest the MTA’s plans to eliminate the Bx 14 bus line.
Senator Rev. Díaz stated: “Luis Sepulveda and I have been working together to prevent the #14 bus services from being cut in our community. We refuse to let the MTA balance their budget on the backs of our Bronx senior citizens, students, disabled persons and residents who need to use this bus line to get to work, school, to shop, to go to the doctor, or visit relatives. We refuse to force Bronx residents to walk a mile in order to take the #6 train. Luis Sepulveda and I have been in close communication with the Senator Martín Malavé-Dilán, Chair of the State Senate Transportation Committee and other officials to fight for this bus route to remain intact.”
The Bx 14 has been slated to close sometime this year in order to save the MTA $1.6 million dollars per year. According to MTA data, an average of 2,000 people use the BX 14 on both weekdays and weekends.
The public and the press are welcome!
