Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz to Senator Schneiderman : Plagiarism is Illegal !
New York State Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz (D-Bronx) is calling upon Senator Eric Schneiderman to come clean and admit that Senate Bill S7343 – legislation to crack down on immigration services fraud – was in fact plagiarized right from Senate Bill S7218, the Immigrant Assistant Service Enforcement Act, which Senator Rev. Díaz submitted to the Senate Codes Committee last week.
“Senator Eric Schneiderman has taken Senate Bill S7218 [same as A10162-A-Brodsky], modified a few words in it, and is publicly pawning it off as his own,” declared Senator Rev. Díaz. “I stand by my constituents and all New Yorkers in a pursuit for honesty and transparency in government, and want them to know this act of deception by Senator Eric Schneiderman is not honest, not transparent, and not moral.”
On March 8th, Assemblyman Richard Brodsky introduced A 10162, and Senator Rev. Díaz is the sponsor of this bill in the Senate. On March 24th, Senator Díaz introduced S7218 to the Senate Codes Committee. On March 31st, Senator Eric Schneiderman introduced a plagiarized version of S7218/A10162-A claiming full credit.
“This unscrupulous scam by Senator Eric Schneiderman just shows how some politicians can try to trick the public by manipulating the efforts of others and then trying to claim it for their own self-serving political aspirations,” remarked Senator Rev. Díaz. “Senator Schneiderman says this bill is long overdue, but Assemblyman Richard Brodsky and I worked on it and submitted it first. For someone running for New York State’s Attorney General, Senator Eric Schneiderman should already know that plagiarism is illegal.”
