Senator Rubén Díaz Announces Legislation to Increase Transparency

Albany, NY  State Senator Rubén Díaz announced today that he is introducing legislation to increase transparency regarding contributions given to elected officials.

“I am introducing legislation that will make it easier for the public to be informed about contributions that are given to their elected officials,” stated Senator Díaz.

The provisions of this legislation will require cash and in-kind contributions valued over $250 to be placed on an elected official’s web site within thirty days of  receipt of the contribution. The specific dollar amount, type of contribution, and the identity of the donor, will also be required.  Deliberate failure to comply with the provisions of this legislation will be a Class E Felony.

“It does not matter what anyone receives from a contributor, but I want to ensure that it is easy for the public to know who gives money to his or her elected officials. Currently you have to go to the Board of Elections and dig out the information. You shouldn't have to play Colombo to know who has given money to your elected officials,” concluded Senator Díaz.
