SENATOR RUBÉN DÍAZ, GOVERNOR DAVID PATERSON AND CENSUS OFFICIALS CALL ON BRONX RESIDENTS TO COMPLETE AND RETURN CENSUS

2010 QUESTIONNAIRES

Bronx, NY – To increase the number of returned census forms, New York State Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz will be conducting a rally together with Governor David Paterson, elected officials, Census Officials and other dignitaries at Hunts Point Train Station on 163rd St. and Southern Boulevard.

According to Senator Diaz, this rally is in response to the low percentage of completed census responses in the Bronx. It will take place on Wednesday March 31, 2010 at 12 p.m. at the Hunts Point subway station located on 163rd Street and Southern Boulevard in the Bronx.

To increase the number of returned forms in the community, Sen. Diaz has also been working with The New York Hispanic Clergy Organization and The NYS Senate Puerto Rican and Latino Caucus.  Senator Diaz stated, “it is of vital importance for Bronx residents to make sure they are counted because the Census information is used to determine the need for social services, block grants allocations, schools, hospitals and other community facilities. The immigrant community is encouraged to come and listen to Census Officials and Governor Paterson explain the importance of completing the forms and its significance to the well being of the Bronx.”
