As Chairwoman of the New York State Senate Standing Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Correction, I was disturbed to hear of last Thursday's shooting incident in the downtown Brooklyn Office of the Division of Parole. It is very alarming that anyone could enter the building without being scanned for a concealed weapon. The safety of New York’s law enforcement officers is of utmost concern, thus the Legislature, Executive, Labor and Management must work together quickly and effectively to fix this issue before another tragedy occurs.
