On May 11, 2010, Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck) awarded Certificates of Merit to members of the Junior Girl Scout Troop 2694 and congratulated them on receiving the Bronze Award, the highest honor given to junior girl scouts. The girls traveled to Albany as part of the New York State Girl Scout Legislative Network.
Receiving the Bronze Award were Kristen Dillard, CJ Goldsmith, Kelly Fleming, Nwanneka Okolo, and Emily Prendergast. The girls, who attend the Thorton-Donovan School in New Rochelle, worked all year to complete the requirements for the Bronze Award, which include the Journey to Self badge, a three part badge, four additional badges, and organizing a service project. The girls started School Aides, the first student service organization at the Thorton-Donovan school. Newest troop member, Diale Tokona, traveled with the girls to Albany and received a Certificate of Honorable Mention from the Senator.
“I so enjoyed spending time with these very poised and accomplished girls,” said Senator Oppenheimer. “They are truly wonderful representatives of the Girl Scouts organization and the New Rochelle community.”
