Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mammaroneck) today urged all women to give themselves the gift of peace of mind this Mother’s Day by scheduling an appointment for a mammogram. The Senator joined with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program in their annual Mother’s Day mammography campaign.
“Many women avoid getting mammograms because they fear a possible breast cancer diagnosis,” observed the Senator. “But 95 percent of all mammograms prove to be normal.” Even when a malignancy is found, early detection offers the most complete range of treatment options and the best prospects for a full recovery.
“I am myself a breast cancer survivor and living proof of the benefits of early detection,” said Senator Oppenheimer.
For more information and to locate an accredited mammography facility nearby, call the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program at (800) 877-8077. In addition to referrals, callers can get emotional support from the Hotline’s specially trained volunteers, most of whom are women who have had breast cancer.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Hotline. “I applaud the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support program for the wonderful services they provide to the women and men of New York.” All services provided by the Hotline are free.
