Senator Larkin Announces Correction Officer Exam Scheduled for October

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) joined with the New York State Department of Correctional Services (DOCS) in announcing the new exam date for persons interested in becoming a correction officer. Under the auspices of the NYS Department of Civil Service, the exam will be held on October 16, 2010. The deadline for filing an application is September 13, 2010.
Anyone interested in taking the exam may apply on-line or download examination information and an application at the Department of Civil Service website at www.cs.state.ny.us/exams. Additional information about the position of correction officer is available on the DOCS website at www.docs.state.ny.us.
The starting salary for a correction officer trainee is currently $36,420 per year. After six months, the salary increases to $38,310. After successful completion of the one-year correction officer traineeship, which ends one year after the employee's date of initial appointment to the Department's Training Academy, the salary increases to $43,867 per year.
