Senator William T. Stachowski (D, Lake View) today announced the State Senate has passed legislation (S.7915) he sponsored that would authorize approval of certain transportation contracts within the Hamburg Central School District and allow the District to retain $1,345,606 in transportation aid it received from the State Education Department.
The legislation rectifies a previous submission error made by Hamburg Central School District when filing transportation agreements from the 2005-06 school year.
“The school district will not lose any funding this year, but because of the filing error, it stood to lose funding in the future,” said Senator Stachowski. “Without this legislation, the State Education Department could legally deduct this large amount of funding against Hamburg’s future state aid which would certainly create a fiscal hardship for the school district and its students. Because of the technical nature of the education aid formula, it was necessary to create this legislation to stop that process from occurring. I am pleased that the measure has passed the Senate and anticipate prompt action by the Assembly now.”
The bill has been sent to the Assembly.
