STACHOWSKI & THRUWAY AUTHORITY ANNOUNCE $91.2 MILLION HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT AWARDED FOR ERIE COUNTY
Senator William Stachowski (D, Lake View) together with the New York State Thruway Authority, today announced a $91.2 million contract has been awarded to Union Concrete and Construction Corp. of West Seneca, New York, for the rehabilitation of approximately eight miles along I-90 from west of Interchange 57 (Hamburg, Route 75) to east of Interchange 58 (Silver Creek, Irving, Route 438).
“I am very pleased that we are proceeding with this important Thruway rehabilitation project,” said Senator Stachowski. “This eight mile section of I-90 is a key piece to future economic development projects in and around the Town of Hamburg to the Silver Creek and Irving areas. I support the Union Concrete and Construction Corp. as it prepares to begin work on this project and look forward to the many positive changes, particularly the improved safety and flow of traffic that the completion of this project will bring for local residents and businesses.”
The approximately eight miles of Thruway between Interchanges 57 and 58 that have been slated for rehabilitation under this contract translate into approximately 52 lane-miles. As part of this contract, nearly 42 lane-miles of the existing pavement will be cracked and seated to provide a stable base for a new asphalt overlay. The remaining 10 lane-miles will receive an unbonded concrete overlay on top of the existing pavement. The project also involves the rehabilitation and painting of eight bridges.
Union Concrete and Construction submitted the lowest proposal among five bidders on the contract. Work is scheduled to begin this month and will continue into the Winter of 2012.
