Sen. Espaillat Selected for Key Leadership & Committee Assignments

Espaillat will serve as top Democrat on Housing Committee and serve as chair of Minority Program Development, a Senate leadership postNew York State Senator Adriano Espaillat (D, WFP – 31st district) announced his selection to a number of key committees as well as a Senate leadership post. Recognizing his longtime leadership on urban issues, including his advocacy for tenants’ rights and working families, Senator Espaillat was selected as the top Democrat on the Housing Committee.
This session, the Housing Committee will play a particularly vital role as existing rent stabilization laws come up for reauthorization. “As an advocate for working families who need rent stabilization to remain in their homes, I am pleased to be selected as the ranking member on the Housing Committee,” said Espaillat whose district ranges from Manhattan’s Upper West Side through Washington Heights and includes Riverdale, Marble Hill, Inwood, and Hamilton Heights.
Senator Espaillat was also chosen to be chair of Minority Program Development, a key leadership post that will help shape the direction of the Senate this year.
Additionally, Senator Espaillat will serve as a member of the Economic Development Committee, Codes Committee, and Environmental Protection Committee.
“My top priority in the senate continues to be job creation, which is why I am particularly eager to get to work as a member of the Economic Development Committee,” said Espaillat. “I know that by investing in New York’s working men and women, supporting small businesses, and incentivizing hiring, we can once again create jobs in our state and restore economic stability for New Yorkers.”
