Senator Espaillat, Assemblyman Dinowitz Cheer Quick Action in Local Bridge Repair

W. 235th Street Pedestrian Bridge in Riverdale on its way to being repaired following constituent complaints and work by local elected officials
Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D – Bronx) and Senator Adriano Espaillat (D – Manhattan/Bronx) commended the New York City Department of Transportation for beginning work on the W. 235th Street Pedestrian Bridge in Riverdale. Over the last few weeks, Senator Espaillat and Assemblyman Dinowitz received complaints from constituents about wear and tear and safety concerns on the bridge. Following the complaints, both legislators quickly followed up with D.O.T and advocated for speedy action.
Constituents had communicated with the elected officials through conventional means as well as use of social media, specifically Twitter.
“As elected officials, it is our job to use every tool at our disposal to help our constituents,” said Senator Adriano Espaillat. “By quickly responding to our neighbors and addressing their concerns, we were able to able to begin work on the bridge in a timely fashion. Thanks to our constituents communicating with us, the teamwork of local leaders, and the responsiveness of D.O.T., this project will be a great example of what happens when we all work together.”
Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz said: “Whether it’s a major long-term project or a quick fix that will make our constituents’ lives easier, we must work together to cut through the red tape and get results. That’s why I am so pleased that D.O.T. has begun work on making repairs to the 235th Street Pedestrian Bridge. Together, we will continue to make constituent service a top priority and improve the lives of residents in our districts.”
Both legislators also thanked Community Board 8 Traffic and Transportation chair Dan Padernacht for his hard work on this and other transit and safety issues.
