Most Staten Island residents are enrolled in the Basic STAR Program which is available to all New Yorkers who own and live in their home. In addition to the Basic STAR program, homeowners may qualify for other exemptions such as the Enhanced STAR Exemption (for seniors over 65), Senior Citizens Homeowners’ Exemption, the Veteran’s Exemption and the Disabled Homeowners’ Exemption. Senator Lanza has worked with the Department of Finance to develop a way for homeowners to view what exemptions they currently carry as well as those they may be eligible for. Simply log onto the Department of Finance website at www.nyc.gov/finance and click on Find Property Tax Benefit Information which can be found on the right side of the screen.
If you require additional information or if you would like to receive an application for any of the exemptions listed above, contact Jeanne Collini at 718-984-4073. The deadline to apply for all exemptions in order for them to take effect this year is March 15th, 2011.
