SENATE OKs SARANAC LAKE PLAN TO ALIENATE PARKLAND FOR WATER PROJECT
The State Senate today approved legislation (S.2912) that would allow the Village of Saranac Lake to alienate Mt. Pisgah Veteran’s Memorial Ski Center parkland property to construct a new water tower and water line.
The project will help the village fulfill a state requirement to update the century-old water system by the end of this year.
“The village has identified Mt. Pisgah Ski Center land as being the best location for a new tower, including meeting the Adirondack Park Agency 40-foot maximum height requirement,” said Senator Little, the sponsor of the legislation. She added the location is in close proximity to a newly drilled well on the northeast side of the village.
The legislation requires the village to substitute other land of same market value for the approximately 2.5 acres of Mt. Pisgah property that will be occupied by the new municipal water facility.
A companion bill is being sponsored by Assemblywoman Janet Duprey.
