Schenectady, NY - (November 3, 2011) – Time Warner Cable, New York’s largest provider of cable and broadband services, today announced completion of new network construction in the Town of Schroon, NY, bringing its advanced video, digital phone and high speed broadband to hundreds of more homes in the Adirondacks. Time Warner Cable extended its advanced hybrid fiber optic network nearly 9 miles along Adirondack Road (also known as East Shore Road) in Schroon, passing 214 homes. The new network runs along Adirondack Road from Red Wing Road to Nesa Road, and includes a number of side roads along the route.
Time Warner Cable participated in Congressman Chris Gibson’s (R-NY 20th) recent Rural Broadband Symposium, and this new investment is further proof of Time Warner Cable’s commitment to its customers and the communities it serves. Over the past few years, Time Warner Cable has invested hundreds of millions of dollars across New York State to update equipment and technology to make these networks even more robust and reliable for customers.
“Time Warner Cable is proud to announce this new investment in the Adirondacks, and we welcome residents of Adirondack Road to our family of Time Warner Cable customers,” said Terence Rafferty, Regional Vice President of Operations for Time Warner Cable in the Northeast. “Time Warner Cable appreciates the partnership we have forged with Congressman Chris Gibson, State Senator Betty Little, and our other elected officials in the region, and their focus on the importance of broadband.”
Congressman Chris Gibson said, “As I have traveled throughout Upstate New York, small business owners, farmers, and individuals have shared with me the impact that the lack of broadband service has on their potential for growth and quality of life. It is absolutely critical for economic development that we continue to deploy broadband technology. Today’s announcement by Time Warner Cable that they have completed a broadband access project in the Town of Schroon is welcome news. Time Warner Cable was a participant in my recent broadband symposium, and I applaud their commitment to being a partner in our efforts to expand access to broadband.”
Senator Betty Little said, “I applaud this investment by Time Warner Cable to bring broadband connectivity to families and businesses in Schroon Lake. This is infrastructure that improves quality of life and strengthens the economy. It provides for educational opportunities, encourages entrepreneurship and offers new employment options, particularly telecommuting. And, it helps keep tourists and second-home owners here a bit longer if they can connect with work while visiting and stretch out their stay. I’m very pleased to see this kind of progress being made.”
