OLEAN – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I - Olean) has earned an “A” grade from the New Yorkers for Better Libraries Political Action Committee (NYLIBS-PAC) for her ongoing support of libraries in the 2011 legislative year.
Senator Young’s high grade was included in NYLIBS-PAC’s recently released “2011 Voter’s Guide” that ranks state legislators using a number of factors, including support for Library Aid in the state budget, sponsoring or co-sponsoring pro-library legislation, and voting records on library-related bills.
John Hammond, spokesperson for NYLIBS-PAC, said “We've always known that Senator Young is a great friend to libraries, and her voting record proves it. Her work on libraries' behalf in restoring much-needed state aid demonstrates her commitment to libraries, as does her support for legislation that makes library construction and renovation projects more affordable to communities in her district.”
“This was a very challenging year for our state but I am proud to have stood up for our libraries. The demand for their services is on the rise and matter more now than ever. Our libraries make our communities better places to live and they should be supported and strengthened,” said Senator Young.
The New Yorkers for Better Libraries Political Action Com¬mittee (NYLIBS-PAC) was formed in 2003 by library advo¬cates who believe that state support for library services is essential to all New Yorkers.
