Over 1,000 residents from Nassau and Suffolk Counties came to the Freeport Recreation Center today to participate in Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.’s annual Golden Gathering.
This year’s Golden Gathering had over 100 exhibitors from government and non-profit agencies to provide information about a variety of issues, including health and nutrition, insurance, public safety, and consumer protection. The event also gave residents the chance to get free blood pressure, hearing, vision, and chiropractic screenings, and no out of pocket flu & pneumonia vaccines provided by Nu Health.
Additionally, residents were able to safely dispose of old medications through a “shed the meds” program and dispose of old documents through the New York State Consumer Protection Board’s "Shred the Word” program. Participants could also obtain or renew a passport through the Town of Hempstead Town Clerk’s office.
Entertainment was provided by students from the Amityville High School Jazz Band and the Freeport Community Chorale.
"The Golden Gathering offered something for everyone. Whether it’s health screenings or information about different programs, residents were able to take advantage of a host of services all under one roof. I’m pleased that so many individuals came to participate,” said Senator Fuschillo (R-Merrick).
Residents who were unable to attend Senator Fuschillo’s Golden Gathering but would like more information about the programs and services that were offered can call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630 or email him at fuschill@nysenate.gov.
