Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced today that federal disaster aid is now available for homeowners, renters and businesses in Suffolk County.
Suffolk’s residents and businesses are now eligible for the Individuals and Households Program, Crisis Counseling, Disaster Unemployment Assistance, USDA food coupons and distribution, USDA food commodities, Disaster Legal Services, the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and Small Business Administration disaster loans. Nassau County residents and businesses are also eligible for this assistance.
“I am pleased that Washington extended this assistance to Suffolk County’s residents and businesses. Hurricane Irene caused significant damage to many homes and buildings in Suffolk County. These programs will greatly assist families and businesses as they try to recover from Hurricane Irene. I applaud Governor Cuomo for securing this aid and urge residents and businesses to take advantage of these programs,” said Senator Fuschillo.
Residents and small businesses who suffered losses are urged to call FEMA’s registration number at 1-800-621-3362 or register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov. If you believe you are eligible for federal aid you must register with FEMA and call as soon as possible. Individuals with a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY should call 1-800-462-7585; for those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1-800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 A.M. to 10 P.M. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.
