Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemblyman David McDonough (R-North Merrick) recently visited Kennedy High School to congratulate senior Joshua Cohen for being named a semifinalist in the 2011 Intel Science Talent Search. Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough presented Joshua with a legislative resolution honoring his accomplishment.

“This is an incredible honor for an incredible student. After countless hours of study, research, and hard work under the guidance of his teachers, Joshua has earned recognition as one of the country’s best and brightest young scientists. I congratulate him and wish him all the best in the future,” said Senator Fuschillo.

The Intel Science Talent Search is the nation’s most prestigious pre-college science competition.  Participants come from all across the country, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands to compete in the program. Joshua was one of only 300 students nationwide selected as semi-finalists.

In addition to being named an Intel semifinalist, Joshua is also a National Merit Scholar and is a member of the National, Science, Math, Spanish, and Music Honor Societies. Joshua is also an officer in the school’s Science Club, a member of the math team, and plays tenor saxophone in the school band. Joshua plans to study biomedical engineering in college next fall.
