Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is informing residents about a free prostate cancer screening program being sponsored by South Nassau Communities Hospital.
The screenings will take place on Wednesday, April 13th from 3-7 pm at South Nassau Communities Hospital, which is located at One Healthy Way in Oceanside, in Conference Room C.
According to the hospital, the program is open to all men ages 45 and older (40 if they have a history of prostate cancer in their family). Men will receive a PSA blood test (no fasting prior to the test is required) and must bring with them a photo ID and the name and address of their primary care physician/urologist.
Walk-ins are welcome, but men are encouraged to preregister for the event by visiting South Nassau Communities Hospital’s website, www.southnassau.org.
Prostate Cancer is the second most common cancer in men, with approximately one in six men being diagnosed with it in their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. Early detection is vital to successfully treating prostate cancer.
Residents who would like more information about the program should call South Nassau Communities Hospital’s Department of Radiation Oncology at 516-632-3380.
