Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that he will be sponsoring two programs on Saturday, October 29th where residents can safely dispose of expired and unwanted medication or old cell phones.
Senator Fuschillo’s “Shed the Meds” and “Cell Phones for Soldiers” programs will be held at the Bellmore Train Station’s far west parking lot, located on the northwest corner of Sunrise Highway and Centre Avenue, between 9 am and 12 pm on Saturday, October 29th.
Participating in both programs is easy; residents can drive up, drop off their unwanted medications and/or old cell phones, and drive away.
Senator Fuschillo’s “Shed the Meds” program enables residents to safely dispose of expired or unwanted medications. The program will be conducted under the supervision of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, who will safely dispose of all medications collected through the program. Safe disposal helps protect the environment and keeps medications out of the hands of young children or others who would use them improperly.
Senator Fuschillo’s “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program collects old or unwanted cell phones to benefit American troops serving overseas. Residents can donate any hand-held cell phone to the program, even if it no longer works. All phones collected through the program will be sent to ReCellular, a cell phone recycling company, which will pay a donation to the “Cell Phone for Soldiers” program for each donated phone. The proceeds raised will be used to purchase calling cards for overseas soldiers to call their love ones back home.
Residents who have questions about Senator Fuschillo’s “Shed the Meds” and “Cell Phones for Soldiers” programs can call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630 for more information.
