Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is reminding residents that they can safely dispose of their old, unwanted medications and cell phones on Saturday, October 29th at his “Shed the Meds” and “Cell Phones for Soldiers” programs.
Both programs will be held at the Bellmore Train Station’s far west parking lot, located on the northwest corner of Sunrise Highway and Centre Avenue, between 9 am and 12 pm. Residents will be able to simply drive up, drop off their unwanted medications and/or old cell phones, and drive away.
Senator Fuschillo’s “Shed the Meds” program enables residents to safely dispose of expired or unwanted medications. The program will be conducted under the supervision of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, which will safely dispose of all medications collected through the program. Safe disposal helps protect the environment and keeps medications out of the hands of young children or others who would use them improperly.
Senator Fuschillo’s “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program collects old or unwanted cell phones to benefit American troops serving overseas. Residents can donate any hand-held cell phone to the program, even if it no longer works. All phones collected through the program will be sent to ReCellular, a cell phone recycling company, which will pay a donation to the “Cell Phone for Soldiers” program for each donated phone. The proceeds raised will be used to purchase calling cards for overseas soldiers to call their loved ones back home.
Residents who have questions about Senator Fuschillo’s “Shed the Meds” and “Cell Phones for Soldiers” programs can call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630 for more information.
