Senator Fuschillo Supports Ntsb Recommendation to Ban Drivers From Using Cell Phones

“The National Transportation Safety Board’s recommendation that states ban all drivers from using any portable electronic devices while driving is a positive step which would help make our roads safer. 

Research has shown that distracted driving greatly increases the likelihood of getting into a car crash. Some research has shown that distracted drivers are more impaired than those who are drunk or under the influence of drugs. 

According to AAA, distracted driving causes between 4,000 and 8,000 crashes a day and contributes to as many as half of the 6 million crashes nationwide each year. That’s more than enough reasons to require drivers to focus their attention solely where it belongs; on the road ahead. 

As Chairman of the New York State Senate’s Transportation Committee, I support the NTSB’s recommendation and believe that New York State should strongly consider adopting a law which reflects it.”
