Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today participated in Birch Elementary School’s annual Community Read Aloud Program by serving as a guest reader for Mrs. Alison Ippolito’s fourth grade class.
Senator Fuschillo read “So You Want to be President?” by Judith St. George and David Small to the students. The story helps children learn, in a fun way, all about our country’s Presidents.
Senator Fuschillo also explained to the children about his job as a New York State Senator and how laws are made. To help illustrate the legislative process, Senator Fuschillo gave the students an idea for a law and had them debate the merits and cast their votes.
“It was wonderful to see the students get excited about both the story and learning how ideas become law. They really showed an enjoyment for two things that will benefit them throughout their lives; reading and learning. I thank them for allowing me to visit their class,” said Senator Fuschillo.
