Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently welcomed East Meadow High School Senior Alyssa Micheli to the State Capitol in Albany.
Alyssa was in Albany to participate in the League of Women Voters New York State Education Foundation’s 11th annual Students Inside Albany conference. The conference is designed to increase high school students’ awareness of their responsibility in a representative government and to provide the tools necessary for meeting that responsibility.
As part of the program, Alyssa spent an afternoon “shadowing” Senator Fuschillo during Senate session. Senator Fuschillo talked with Alyssa about his role as a State Senator and what he does on a typical day in Albany when the Senate is in session. Senator Fuschillo also brought Alyssa onto the floor of the State Senate Chambers, where she got a first-hand look at the legislative process by watching legislative debates and votes on bills.
“It was great to give Alyssa the opportunity to get a first-hand, in person look at the legislative process in action. It was a pleasure meeting her and I hope she enjoyed her experience,” said Senator Fuschillo.
