Students from Shore Road School in Bellmore recently collected several boxes of old, unwanted cell phones for Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr.’s “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program. Senator Fuschillo visited the school to personally pick up the phones and thank students for their efforts.
“Shore Road’s students should be very proud of themselves, because their efforts are really going to make a difference. Each phone they collected will help bring the comfort of home to American soldiers and sailors who are serving our country overseas. I thank them for participating in this program, ” said Senator Fuschillo (R-Merrick).
Shore Road’s Random Act of Kindness (RAK) Pack spearheaded the collection drive in the school. The RAK pack is a service club of 5th and 6th grade students who offer random acts of kindness to the school and community, demonstrating the school’s core values of respecting others, dedication, and teamwork.
Senator Fuschillo’s “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program collects old or unwanted cell phones to benefit American troops serving overseas. Residents can donate any hand-held cell phone to the program, even if it no longer works. All phones collected through the program will be sent to ReCellular, a cell phone recycling company, which will pay a donation to the “Cell Phone for Soldiers” program for each donated phone. The proceeds raised are used to purchase calling cards for overseas soldiers to call their loved ones back home. Over 1,000 cell phones have been collected through the program this year.
