State Senate Honors the Life of Freeport Resident James Parola

Senate Passes Fuschillo Resolution Honoring Mr. Parola’s Many Years of Service to the Freeport Community 

          The New York State Senate recently honored the memory of longtime Freeport resident James Parola, who passed away on February 24th at the age of 88. The Senate passed a legislative resolution, sponsored by Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), honoring Mr. Parola’s long history community service.  

            Mr. Parola was a devoted member of the Freeport community, working tirelessly on behalf of its children. Mr. Parola was a Past-President and 12 year member of the Freeport Board of Education, as well as Past-President of Freeport Dollars for Scholars, a nonprofit organization that raises money for college bound students. Mr. Parola and his wife, Madeleine, also established an annual scholarship fund for Freeport High School students who aspire to study theatre arts in college. 

            “James Parola devoted many years of his life to helping Freeport’s children and working hard to make sure they had every opportunity to succeed. He leaves behind an impressive legacy of service which is difficult to match. I’m pleased that the Senate has memorialized and paid tribute to his many years of service to the Freeport community,” said Senator Fuschillo.         

With the Senate passage of the legislative resolution, James Parola’s accomplishments and record of service will forever be part of the New York State Senate’s official record.

Senate Resolution No. 846

        MOURNING  the  death of James J. Parola, World War II Veteran, distinguished citizen and devoted member  of his community

   WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to citizens of the State of New York  whose  lifework  and  civic  endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of New York; and

  WHEREAS,  James  J.  Parola,  World War II Veteran, of Freeport, New York died on February 24, 2011 at the age of 88; and

  WHEREAS, James J. Parola distinguished himself in his profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his community; and 

  WHEREAS, A retired Supervisor for AT & T, James J. Parola was Past-President and a 12 year member of the Freeport Board of Education, as well as Past President of Freeport Dollars  for  Scholars, a nonprofit organization that raises money for college bound students; and 

  WHEREAS,  James J. Parola was a lifelong proponent of education; he became more active in the Freeport School District after his sons David and Robert graduated from high school; and 

  WHEREAS,  James J. Parola's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and civic endeavors; and 

  WHEREAS,  Along  with  his  beloved  wife Madeleine, James J. Parola established an annual scholarship fund for Freeport High School students who aspire to study theatre arts in college; and 

  WHEREAS, Predeceased by his son, Robert, James J. Parola is survived by his wife Madeleine, of 57  years,  his  son,  David,  two  grandsons, Gordon and Alynn, and four siblings, Harry, Florence, Marian, and Grace; and 

  WHEREAS,  Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of compassion, and comforted by a loving family, James J. Parola leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all  he  served  and  befriended;  now, therefore, be it 

  RESOLVED,  That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of World War II Veteran, James J. Parola, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it further 

  RESOLVED,  That  a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of James J. Parola.
