NEW YORK -- Today, State Senator Daniel Squadron released the following statement after the NYC Department of Education announced plans to add additional seats to the future school at Peck Slip. The DOE will add two new classrooms, or 56 new seats, to the school, bringing the total to 712 seats. Last month, the DOE announced the addition of 180 seats:
I'm pleased that DOE has again heeded our call to add new seats to the future school at Peck Slip, bringing the total to 712 seats. By adding 56 seats today, as well as the 180 added last month, DOE is taking a big step toward responding to the needs of Lower Manhattan's ever-growing community.
A bigger Peck Slip school will begin to provide the community with much-needed options as we work toward a schools plan that truly serves our kids
