Senator Squadron Reacts to MTA Announcement on 370 Jay Street
September 26, 2011
BROOKLYN -- Today, State Senator Daniel Squadron released the following statement on the MTA's announcement that it plans to make use of 370 Jay Street:
Today, the MTA signaled its intention to make use of 370 Jay Street.
For years, my colleagues and I have called on the MTA to make use of the nearly abandoned building, which has remained a blight on Downtown Brooklyn as the neighborhood continues to grow. By looking for a developer and pursuing office use, the MTA will generate much-needed revenue and bolster Downtown Brooklyn's economy.
Taking 370 Jay Street out of mothballs and into use will mean dramatic progress in a keystone location for Downtown Brooklyn.
I urge the city and the MTA to quickly issue an RFP in the coming weeks. This will ensure that 370 Jay becomes an asset to the community, rather than a liability.
