Senator Carlucci Honors Winner

of 1st Annual "Black History Month Essay Writing Contest"

 (Spring Valley, NY) Today, Senator David Carlucci presented a Kindle to Hernz Laguerre, the winner of the "Black History Month Essay Writing Contest". His 1000 word essay highlighted the contributions of African Americans and the impact that these contributions have made on our lives.

 “It is imperative that we take time out to reflect on the many contributions that African Americans have made to our country and world. Many of these contributions have made our way of life much easier and enjoyable. It is also an opportunity for all of us to further educate ourselves on the rich culture and heritage of African Americans,” Senator Carlucci said. “I want to congratulate our winner, Hernz Laguerre, the four finalists, and thank all of the students who submitted essays.”

 In honor of Black History month in February, Senator Carlucci hosted his first annual “Black History Month Writing Contest”.  The winner was selected out of over 20 essays based on quality, grammar, creativity, and an overall well rounded essay.

 The other four finalists in order from second place to fifth place are Lily Lu- Clarkstown High School South, Laurette Telemaque- Ramapo Senior High School, Elanor Kung- Clarkstown High School South, Sneha Mehta- Clarkstown High School South.
