SYRACUSE— New Yorkers for Better Libraries recently announced its grades for New York State Legislators. Senator David Valesky (D-Oneida) received an A for his strong support of libraries throughout the community, scoring 140 of 160 points from the group.
“Libraries play a key role in our community by help people of all ages to learn and explore new interests,” Valesky said. “I am pleased to support these great resources, and to help ensure every person has the opportunity to access these valuable facilities.”
Legislators’ grades were calculated by assessing several factors, including funding support through budget appropriations as well as votes on key pieces of legislation identified by New Yorkers for Better Libraries.
“We've always known that Senator Valesky is a great friend to libraries, and his voting record proves it,” John Hammond, spokesman for New Yorkers for Better Public Libraries, said. “His work on libraries’ behalf in restoring much-needed state aid demonstrates his commitment to libraries, as does his support for legislation that makes library construction and renovation projects more affordable to communities in his district.”
