Bronx, NY – Senator Gustavo Rivera (D,WF-Bronx) joined his colleagues in the State Senate today to confirm Governor Cuomo's appointment of Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer to the Board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The State Senate voted unanimously in favor of the nomination.
“I would like to congratulate Bronx Borough President Freddy Ferrer on his confirmation to the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and applaud Governor Cuomo for nominating a public servant who understands the importance of MTA services for working families in New York," said Senator Rivera. "As Bronx Borough President and as a member of the New York City Council, Freddy represented working families in the Bronx who not only use, but depend on, public transportation to get to and from work everyday. I had the honor of working for Freddy in 2005 on his Mayoral race and have been fortunate to have his friendship and guidance throughout my career. We could not have a better advocate for the Bronx and for the working New Yorkers that utilize the services of the MTA than Freddy Ferrer."
Fernando Ferrer was born and raised in the South Bronx. Ferrer served on the New York City Council from 1982 to 1987, as Bronx Borough President from 1987-2001 and was a candidate for New York City Mayor in 2001 and 2005.
