March 14, 2011

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) will introduce the resolution declaring March as Women’s History Month in the New York State Senate on March 15th. The theme for the year is "Our History is Our Strength."

"From the women's suffrage movement some 150 years ago to the present day, women have played a crucial role in New York State's political, social and economic development," Senator Farley said. "Our State and our Nation have been greatly strengthened through the valuable contributions, and it is important to recognize, remember and honor these contributions."

Senator Farley represents Fulton, Montgomery, Schenectady and Saratoga Counties, areas of the State that have produced many great historical women such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton of Johnstown, Leonora Barry of Amsterdam and Katherine Burr Blodgett of Schenectady. These women are part of the Senate’s Women of Distinction exhibit that can be viewed in the Legislative Office Building through March 18th.

"Women’s History Month is a time to take stock of the enormous contributions of great women from our past. The Women of Distinction exhibit singles out just a few of these extraordinary people as an example of women’s achievements that continue to this very day," said Senator Farley.

The women in the exhibit are showcased in a Women of Distinction booklet.
