3-on-3 Basketball Tourney Announces Soccer Clinic and 7-on-7 Football

Senator Jack M. Martins and the 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Committee announced today that basketball division sign-ups are in full swing and tournament sign-ups continue until tournament day! Forms can be requested by emailing Dutchtourney@gmail.com or by calling State Senator Jack Martins’ office at 746-5924. The tournament is entirely free and there are no costs or entry fees for any events.

Along with basketball at the tournament, a Soccer Clinic and a brand component in 7-on-7 Football games will be played that day! The tournament is being held on July 16th at Dutch Broadway School, Elmont. The tip-off this year is at 10:30am and runs all day into the early evening. The tournament is named after former Elmont resident and 9-11 firefighter David Dangerfield who was an active community, educational and athletic league leader who passed away.

Tournament organizers also announced that the Soccer Clinic being offered throughout the day is being sponsored by the Elmont Soccer Club. The clinic is being made available by the work of Elmont Soccer Club President Richard “Kiki” DeBrosse and the entire Club. “This tournament is something the kids always look forward to. Sometimes opportunity doesn’t knock, it kicks! July 16th is going to be a great day,” said Elmont Soccer Club President Richard “Kiki” DeBrosse.

State Senator Jack Martins also announced that local Soccer Stars made up of UVA NCAA star Ahkeel Rodney, Elmont Memorial High School Star and Villanova Soccer player Aaron Dennis, Dowling College Soccer Stars Ajani Jones and Jules Riche will be on hand to offer their Soccer skills and teach budding Soccer players tricks and fundamentals as well as play games! “Ahkeel, Ajani, Jules and Aaron are some of the most talented Soccer stars in the area and I am so honored that they are participating and lending their considerable talents to this day. I can’t thank them enough and I know our young people can’t wait to score some goals,” said State Senator Jack Martins.

Councilman Ed Ambrosino said, “the soccer clinic was a real hit last year and this year I will be getting in the quad myself and shooting a few goals with my kids and friends throughout the community.”

Last year, over 3,400 children and adults participated in 3-on-3 Tournament throughout the day. “This tournament is probably one of the greatest events in our community that everybody looks forward to,” said County Legislator John Ciotti adding, “there is food, drinks and fun for everyone! Everything is free that day so I hope to see everyone come down to Dutch Broadway School!”

"This tournament brings everyone together in what has become the Summer "reunion" for the entire community. There is basketball, soccer, football and events for everyone. There is even the fun Elmont Fire Department Safety House for our little ones! It's going to be a great day and I can't wait for July 16th," said State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos.

The committee also announced a great improvement to the operation of the tournament this year in that specific times are being assigned to the different divisions so that young people can enjoy the other attractions and events at the tournament. According to Tournament Chairman Scott Cushing, “each division has a set time to start and a set time to finish. No more waits and no more down time. Teams will have set times so our basketball stars will no longer have wait times.”

The new division times announced by the committee are: 4th, 5th and 6th grades at 10:30am, 7th and 8th at 12:30, 9th and 10th grades at 2:30pm, 11th and 12th grades at 4:30pm and college divisions at 5:30pm. Football 7-on-7 games will begin at 5:00pm. The Soccer clinic runs all day beginning at 11:00am.

Committee member Sandra Smith announced that there is not only an expanded free lunch program at the tournament, but the senior and college divisions will have a special food tent with items as a new addition to the day. “We wanted to do something a little extra special for our young adults who pitch in and do so much for the tournament and community. This was our way of saying thank you!”

Registration for the tournament has begun and will continue to the day of the tournament on July 16th. To get a registration form, simply email dutchtourney@gmail.com.
