Honoring Our Veterans on Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a day to honor all veterans for their service to our country. It is observed on Nocember 11, the aniversary of the Armistince that signified the end of World War I, which formally ended at the 11th hour of the11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

Im 1938, Congress passed an act that made the 11th day of each year a legal holiday, known as Armistice Day." On October 8, 1938, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued the first Veterans Day Proclamation, stating, "In order to insure proper and widespread observance of this anniversary, all veterans, all veterans' organizations, and the entire citizenry will wish to join hands in the common purpose."

Senator Jack M. Martins joins with citizens from across the United States in thanking our veterans for their service in preserving our freedom and way of life. Senator Martins also thanks the current members of our Armed Forced for continuing to protect our country, the greatest country in the world, from those who would seek to harm us.

"To all of our veterans and those serving in the Armed Forces, thank you for your service in protecting our nation," he said.
