Senator Jack Martins Reflects on International Holocaust Remembrance Day
Jack M. Martins
January 27, 2011
"Today is a day we reflect on one of the darkest hours our world has ever witnessed. At a time where many learned scholars have proclaimed that 'the world was sick,' too many sat still and simply looked the other way while genocide was perpetrated. It's too simple to say that we must never forget. We must educate. We must discuss. We must listen to those who lived through this human tragedy. The United Nations has proclaimed today to be International Holocaust Remembrance Day. For many of the people I represent, the Holocaust is not just a day to memorialize, it's a day that we remind ourselves that injustice, genocide and freedom of religion are not just catchphrases we utter. We live them."
