On Saturday, April 9, Senator Jack M. Martins joined with Westbury Mayor Peter Cavallaro for a ribbon cutting ceremony at M. Phipps Sport Center, 348 Post Avenue, for the Westbury Boxing Club.
Former Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon funded the community boxing program through the PBA. It is continuing in his memory through the Dillon Cornerman Foundation, established with the help of former State Senator Michael Balboni.
“The boxing club has served the community for years. Those who have participated in it as well as the staff, trainers and board members have all done a great job in making this program one that builds self-esteem and a strong work ethic,” Senator Martins said.
