Senator Jack Martins congratulated Elmont's own Caprice Nugent who captured the 2011 Miss Jamaica US Pageant! The Miss Jamaica Pageant is the number one Caribbean beauty pageant in the Northeast. The Miss Jamaica US pageant celebrates empowerment, beauty, intelligence, volunteerism, education and community of Jamaican women. Media mogul Ken Williams founded the pageant in 1986. The pageant is an annual event that takes place in New York State that promotes awareness, poise, elegance, and self-esteem. Capri is a graduate of Gotham Avenue Elementary School and Elmont Memorial High School in Elmont. "Capri is an outstanding woman who has made the entire Jamaican community proud in Elmont. Her win is a testament to her hard work, determination and effort. I'm very proud of her and wish her well in her new internship with the Congressional Black Caucus," said Senator Martins.
