Senator Martins Congratulates Intel Semifinalists From North Shore Hebrew Academy

Senator Jack M. Martins visited the North Shore Hebrew Academy in Great Neck to congratulate Jonathan Michael Nachman and Sarah Jamie Toledano for being named semi-finalists in the Intel Science Talent Search.

Jonathan’s project, “Green Micropatterning: Stamping Candida antarctica Lipase-B onto Poly(e-caprolactone),” focused on a green way to make a circuit board, using less dangerous chemicals.

Sarah’s project, “Strychnine Distinguishes between Two Populations of a1 Glyince Receptors in HEK Cells,” focused on distinguishing drugs based on their properties.

Besides their research, Jonathan and Sarah both excel in other areas of their lives at North Shore Hebrew Academy. Jonathan was on the Mock Trial team that recently went to the county finals. Sarah is a member of the varsity soccer team and the jazz band. She recently participated in the March of the Living, an international, educational program that brings Jewish teens from all over the world to Poland on Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Memorial Day, to march from Auschwitz to Birkenau, the largest concentration camp complex built during World War II.

Senator Martins presented Senate Resolutions that were passed on the floor of the Senate in recognition of the all the Intel semifinalists in the Seventh Senate District.

“I congratulate Jonathan and Sarah. They, along with the other Intel semifinalists, are among our future leaders who are succeeding academically as well as in their community. They are already making a difference,” said Senator Martins.

In the fall, Sarah will be attending MIT while Jonathan will be attending Columbia.
