Senator Martins Congratulates Intel Semifinalists From Roslyn High School

Senator Jack M. Martins visited Roslyn High School on Thursday, April 7 to present the students who were name semifinalists in the Intel Science Talent Search with Senate Resolutions.

Senator Martins congratulated Roslyn High School seniors Brian Chen, Sarah Pak and Caroline Trezza and discussed their projects with them.

Brian’s project was entitled, “Does Ethnicity Matter: The Effect of Student Ethnicity on Teacher Perceptions and Grades.”

Sarah’s project was entitled, “To Log or Not to Log: The Effect of Mandatory Reading on Children’s Intrinsic Motivation to Read.”

Caroline’s project was entitled, “The Relationship Between Academic Procrastination and Beliefs About Effort and Capability in High School Students.”

All three students are seniors and had extremely successful academic careers. Brian and Caroline are still deciding on colleges while Sarah has chosen Princeton.

“I was extremely impressed with Brian, Sarah and Caroline. Their projects illustrate their commitment to learning. Not only have they succeeded academically, but they are well-rounded students who have participated in numerous extra-curricular activites. I congratulate them on their tremendous accomplishment as well as the entire Roslyn community. Brian, Sarah and Caroline are testaments to the high level of education taking place at Roslyn High School,” said Senator Martins.

The Resolutions congratulating the Intel semifinalists were read into the Senate record on the Senate floor in the Capitol in Albany by Senator Martins.
