Senator Martins Honors Port Washington Eagle Scouts

Senator Jack M. Martins was proud to attend the Eagle Scout of Honor ceremony in honor of Gregory K. Michel and Daniel R. Michel of Troop 241 in Port Washington and present the troop’s two newest Eagle Scouts with Senate Resolutions.

The twin brothers received the highest honor that a scout can achieve, the rank of Eagle Scout. On their trail to the Eagle Scout honors, Gregory earned 27 Merit Badges and Daniel earned 23.

Gregory is a senior at Regis St. High School in New York City. He grew up in Port Washington and attended St. Peter Alcantara Elementary School. He has been in scouting for 11 years, starting with the Cub Scouts in 2000 and joining the Boy Scouts in 2004 with Troop 241. Greg, a huge Yankees fan, cleared a trail to create a safe overlook vantage point over the Long Island Sound at Sands Point Preserve, for his Eagle Scout project.

Like his brother, Daniel grew up in Port Washington and attended the St. Peter Alcantara Elementary School. He is currently a senior at Chaminade High School. He has been scouting for 11 years with both the Boy Scouts and Troop 241. Daniel’s Eagle Scout project involved the refurbishment and restoration project at the Queen of Peace Home in Queens Village, New York, a senior healthcare facility in the Arch Diocese of New York.

“Attaining the rank of Eagle Scout is a tremendous accomplishment. It takes a special commitment and numerous hours of hard work. I congratulate Greg and Daniel. Reaching their goal is something that they can forever cherish. I was honored to attend their Eagle Scout ceremony,” said Senator Martins.

The Eagle Courts of Honor were held at the Sands Point Preserve Hempstead House.
