Senator Jack M. Martins last week visited the Manorhaven School in Port Washington for Cultural Studies Week. The school library was transformed into the country of Ireland as the students had an opportunity to learn about the Irish culture. Senator Martins met with Port Washington School Superintendent Dr. Geoff Gordon and Manorhaven School Principal Bonni Cohen.

Students learned about Irish customs and traditions. Each student received a castle stamp to represent their “visit” to Ireland, where the students learned from 30 boards that displayed educational information about the country.

This was the second time Senator Martins visited the Manorhaven School. In his previous visit, he read to the students during the Manorhaven Read Aloud 2011. “I want to thank Dr. Gordon and Mrs. Cohen for allowing me to visit during Cultural Studies Week. I was amazed at the amount of information on Ireland’s customs that were available for students to learn from,” Senator Martins said. “It was my pleasure to return to the Manorhaven School and I look forward to visiting again as well as visiting the other schools in the Port Washington School District in the future,” Senator Martins said.
