State Senator Jack Martins was on the sidelines with Elmont Principal John Capozzi cheering on the Elmont Memorial High School Spartan Football team this past Saturday as they took on Mepham. Senator Martins was invited to the game by players on the Varsity Football team who have interned in his office. Before the game started, Senator Martins was greeted by Elmont Spartan Star wide receiver Ben Odugbesan who scored two touchdowns in the contest to lift Elmont over Mepham 28-23. One of those touchdowns was as a result of Spartan QB Will Faison throwing a 40 yard touchdown to Odugbesan for a sensational Elmont score. Elmont running back Qusarn Caldwell also scored for the Spartan squad and receiver Kyle Johnson had a 99 yard kickoff return TD. "It was a real honor to be on the sidelines and cheer on the Spartans in this great win," said Senator Martins adding, "it was also alot of fun to watch Ben, Kyle, Qusarn, Will and the team make the entire Elmont community proud. Great job guys!"
