Senator Martins Supports Cancer Research Fundraiser in Elmont

Senator Jack M. Martins was back in Elmont to support a cancer research fundraising effort at Averill Park in the form of a Street Hockey Marathon! The 3rd annual hockey marathon is entitled "Playing for a Cure." Young people and adults throughout Elmont, Franklin Square, Floral Park and South Floral Park play hockey and raise money for cancer reasearch for charities like 1 in 9. Senator Martins was joined by 1 in 9 Director Gerri Barash and hundreds of local Elmont residents in the effort.
"This is a great cause and it's a lot of fun," said Senator Martins. "I'm very proud to have supported the effort and to cheer on our Elmont hockey players!"
Senator Martins was introduced to players and families by Elmont resident MaryJane Havrylkoff. Throughout the day, hockey games are played raffles are done and food is sold to benefit cancer research. To date, the hockey marathon has raised $10,000.
