ILION, 07/27/11 - State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I - Oneonta) today joined the Village of Ilion and Remington Arms, LLC in announcing that Remington Arms is now a full requirements retail electric customer of the Village of Ilion municipal electric system. Earlier this year the village received an allocation of additional hydropower from the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to support this provision of electric service and Remington Arms' recent project expansion and job retention in Ilion.
"The low-cost hydropower allocation approved by the Power Authority trustees is one of the building blocks for ensuring that Remington Arms continues to be a lasting, growing part of the Mohawk Valley community and economy," said Senator Seward. "I was pleased to work closely with Remington Arms, state and local officials in negotiating a final agreement that is beneficial to all involved. The public/private partnership in Ilion is a positive blueprint that needs to be replicated across upstate New York to help maintain our current workforce and create new jobs."
"On behalf of the Village of Ilion and its board of trustees, I want to express our sincere thanks to all involved in bringing about this historical transaction - something that has been trying to get accomplished by village boards since the 1960s," said Mayor John Stephens of the Village of Ilion. "This transition to Ilion electric service will certainly provide Remington with a substantial savings on its power bill for the Ilion facility and I hope will be one of the final building blocks in solidifying Remington's presence in Ilion, Herkimer County and the Mohawk Valley for many, many years to come."
"On behalf of Remington Arms, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Village of Ilion and all federal, state and local representatives for their continuing support or Remington Arms," said Igor Popov, acting plant manager of the Ilion manufacturing facility.
Founded in 1816 in upstate New York, Remington Arms Company, LLC is one of the nation's oldest continuously operating manufacturing facilities of firearms and the Mohawk Valley's largest employer. The Village of Ilion hydropower, some of the lowest cost electricity in the country, will help solidify the future of Remington Arms' operations in the Village of Ilion.
