Statement on Hurricane Irene
James L. Seward
August 29, 2011
ONEONTA, 08/29/11 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today commented on the effects of Hurricane Irene and the ongoing clean-up:
“In the wake of Hurricane Irene my thoughts and prayers go out to the many families and communities that have suffered significant losses and continue to cope with the aftermath of the storm.
“I want to extend my sincere thanks to our first-responders who protected lives while risking their own throughout the weekend and who remain on alert assisting those in need. I also appreciate Governor Cuomo’s work along with National Guard personnel and the quick decision by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in approving federal disaster assistance for Greene and Schoharie counties, two of the hardest hit areas in my district.
“Moving forward, my office and the state stand ready to assist the affected communities rebuild and get back to normal day-to-day life as soon as possible. Remember to stay safe and heed evacuation orders and any other official notices in the coming days as clean-up and repairs take place.”
